Real quick, think back to when you were 6 years old.

That boring math class is finally over.

And you’re about to taste the sweet freedom of RECESS!

You step outside to see a group of older kids playing football.

Feeling overconfident, you try to join them.

But no matter how hard you try, you just can’t play at their level.

They run faster, throw further, and make immature sex jokes about your mother (so not cool).

After a few minutes, you say to hell with it.

And go play with your friends instead.

Why am I reminding you of your childhood recess traumas?

Well, this week, I relived this experience.

At least, I thought I was going too.

Until the ‘older kids’ decided to play ball with me…

I recently joined Greg Isenberg’s Community Empire.

It’s full of successful business owners, founders, and VCs with 10+ years of experience…

… Then there’s little ol’ me.

The noob who’s only been in business for 18 months.

They’re the big kids. I’m the 6 year old trying to keep up.

(Talk about imposter syndrome).

Even so, I hopped on a networking call with the other members.

Expecting to be the biggest dweeb in the room.

But what happened next surprised me…

I introduced myself as a digital marketer.

Sharing how I grew my ghostwriting agency to $500,000 ARR.

And made $140,000 on my first ever cohort launch - Digital Identity.

The other members were stoked!

They started asking me questions and seeking my advice.

I was floored.

They’ve all been in business for decades!

And they’re asking me questions about digital marketing?

That’s when it hit me…

They’re great at market research, finding PMF, and scaling businesses.

But none of them have dedicated 2 focused years to mastering digital marketing.

In this specific domain, I had the most experience.

Next thing I know, they’re asking what my monthly rates are.

($4,200 per month for ghostwriting or $750 per hour for consulting).

How does this apply to you?

Well, it’s the most underrated lead gen hack I’ve found so far.

And no one is talking about!

Just think about it.

I paid $99 to get on a group call with my target customer.

The same customers my competitors are sending 100s of DMs a month too!

They’re fishing for leads. Meanwhile, the leads are already in my net.

When you look at the numbers, it gets even crazier…

My marketing spend:

$99 per month to join Greg’s community.

My profit per client:

$4,2000 per month at a 65% margin = $2,750

My return on ad spend:

$99 to make $2,750

That pays for my community membership for 2+ years.

And that’s only 1 client!

If each client stays for 3-6 months, these numbers are even crazier.

So why aren’t you doing this?!

If you’re struggling to get leads…

… Stop marketing. Start networking.

Join paid communities where your target customer hangs out.

Hell, post on free Reddit forums or Facebook groups where they hang out.

Do this in a non-needy way for 4 weeks.

I promise, with the right execution, you’ll be signing at least 1 new client per month.

(Assuming you have social proof, a solid offer, and can sell).

Don’t conform to what everyone else is doing.

Cut straight to the source.
